Central Market Hatch Chile Fest + Cooking Class Gift Card Giveaway for 2!
HATCH CHILE SEASON IS HERE!!!  Since I can’t yell at you through the computer screen I hope my caps did the trick.  If you saw the last post I did with the Hatch Chile Soup recipe, or my most popular recipe, Hatch Pepper Dirty Rice Casserole, you already know I am crazy about these peppers.  They only come around for the month of August, so I am taking it upon myself to make sure anyone who comes across my blog (and somehow doesn’t know about these precious peppas), finds some in their neck of the woods.  I am lucky enough to have Central Market just a couple miles away, and they throw the best Hatch Fest every year – complete with roasting of about a gazillion peppers in the parking lot, hundreds of hatch products (jams, sauces, salsas, chips, chocolate, bread, hummus… you think of it and it’s 90% likely they have made something insanely awesome with it), tastings, and so much more.
Central market has worked with the same farmer in Hatch, New Mexico for the past 20 years, producing the biggest, most flavorful peppers. Â Ever since my mom got me onto the peppers when I was a kid, I try to stretch the limit on the amount of dishes I can put them in while I have them – eggs, sandwiches, burgers, casseroles, cereal….. kidding about the last one… maybe…. Â Their Hatch Fest will run until August 18th, but you should be able to find the peppers around for another week after that. Â Central Market is also hosting a number of incredible cooking classes featuring the peppers, and lucky for me (AND YOU!), they decided to host a giveaway for 2 cooking class gift certificates good for any location!
****UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Rina for winning!
All you have to do to enter the giveaway is: Comment answering the following question below: What will you be making with your first batch of hatch chiles? (Giveaway ends 8/21/15) For an extra chance to win, share this on facebook!
Thanks to my momma for the awesome pictures of Hatch Fest!! Â She and I share the same obsession with these little guys, and this is something we look forward to year around.
I wish you had smell-o-vision for this post. Â As soon as my car enters the vicinity of Central Market, I can smell the sweet peppers roasting in the air… oh my goshhhhhh….

Nice photos! In a big pot, I put fresh frozen lima beans, two smoked turkey legs, and coarsely chopped up hatch chilies, onion, garlic, some cherry tomatoes and carrots. Cooked until all was tender. It was delish. Next dish will be chilie cheese rice!

Hey Lizzy –
I have to admit – after YEARS of hearing about the Hatch Chilis via Central Market I have never tried them. Maybe the time has come! I’d love to try your Hatch Chili Pappardelle With Goat & Pork Sausage (except I’d have to replace the sausage with a veggie sausage).
Your Dirty Rice Casserole looks great – but again I’d have to make a few adjustments to make it vegetarian! 🙂
Thanks for sharing these recipes – and your infectious love for the Hatch Chilis.
p.s.. I know I STILL owe you a call!

We love hatch pepper season. We never seen to freeze enough of it. They taste great when they just got out of the roaster. First thing I want to make is a hatch pepper pesto. Thanks.

One of my very best friends just moved to a little town near Santa Fe – can’t wait to visit her next fall so we can enjoy a stroll thru the market and smell the roasting chilis! Your pictures are great, I can almost taste them!

I made King Ranch Casserole with loads of Roasted Hatch Chile Peppers in it and the following night I made Hatch Green Chile Cheeseburgers! We have had Hatch Green Chile Peppers in Breakfast Burritos, and one night I cooked some ring bologna and served it with two kinds of Hatch cheeses, Hatch Mayonnaise, Ketchup and Mustard I made with chopped Hatch peppers and fruit! Today I baked a chicken with onions, lemon slices and lemon pepper. I added three fresh Hatch Green Chile Peppers whole as well and when the chicken was baked, I removed the skin, and seeds of the peppers, cheopped them and put them on top of the chicken! I love HatchFest!!!
