Capital Grille + $28 Wine Pairing Event (Through Aug. 30th!)
I am so excited to write this post. A few weeks ago, I received an email inviting me to take part in the “Generous Pour Summer Wine Event” at Capital Grille here in Houston, and I immediately said yes. First off, the event sounded AMAZING – $28 per person with dinner for the option to taste eight remarkable wines crafted, designed, or owned by distinguished women from some of California’s most acclaimed vineyards – YES PLEASE! If you read my blog regularly, you know how much I cherish my red wine, so this was right up my alley.
I haven’t had a chance to eat at Capital Grille since I was little, so I was also super excited to see what I would think about it now. Let me tell you now… I was BLOWN AWAY – from the impeccable service we had, to the huge wine selection, the quality of the food we were served, the ambiance – I can’t say enough good things about this place. I am always a bit wary about going to “chain” restaurants, but the fact that Capital Grille is a nationwide steakhouse and still has the reputation it does, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be disappointed. The menu was classic steakhouse with a modern twist, the steaks were cooked to perfection, the wine was paired perfectly to every course, we really had the best night.
Here are my lucky dinner dates :).
A little about this event – running nationwide now until August 30th, and $28 ONLY, you are getting generous pours of 8 different wines, hand-picked by George Miliotes, the Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier (one of only 229 people in the world to earn this title). Red and white wines are included – I thought for sure I would love the reds and hate the whites, because that’s just who I am – I’m not a white wine drinker… but holy wow. His picks were beyond what I had ever expected, and I may have had like 3 extra pours of each…. whoops :). This event is so cool because it is your own personalized wine dinner, and you cannot beat that price. The waiters are trained so well on these wines, that when you make your choices of what to eat they walk you through the best pairings, and make sure your dinner runs smoothly.
Also, I am LOVING the fact that this event is celebrating women in winemaking!!! Gives me hope my future winery… :). Here are a couple PDF’s that I made with complete wine tasting notes and wine descriptions.
Daniel, the manager at the Capital Grille here in Houston, was one of the kindest, most accommodating people I have ever met!! He even spoiled us when we got to the Arrowood pairing, and subbed in a special 2005 reserve bottle :). I have to say the Arrowood pairing was my favorite… the wine was so smooth, it went down a little too fast :/.
One of my favorite pairings – fresh oysters on the half shell with the Galerie Sauvignon Blanc – the tart, citrusy taste of the wine went perfect with the sweet, and salty oysters.
Be sure if you go to get the off the menu fried lobster tail.
Be sure to visit Capital Grille before August 30th to take part in this incredible summer event!!!

I was trying to find info for this year’s GP when I came across your blog (yeah – early bloomer, get ahead of the curve…) I remember fondly that Arrowood – our location in Orlando (Millenia) did not have the 2005 vintage the first time we went, but since they promised us they would get it from their I-Drive location, we went a second time. We’re not usually ones to over-indulge, but my wife and I polished off a full bottle, and this is in addition to the other whites and reds we may or may not have drunk/sampled 🙂
