Zojirushi Rice Cooker Review + Recipe
Happy Tuesday! I haven’t blogged in a week so I have a lot to say but, I’ll save all that for tomorrow :). I am so excited about this post because it is for one of my ABSOLUTE favorite kitchen gadgets – my Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker. After my brother got one of these for his wedding last year (and the jealousy of not owning this awesome little gadget myself ensued), I bought my own, and have used it 2-3x a week since. Not only does it make my life ten times easier, but it is so versatile as far as what you can make in it – rice, bread, oatmeal, quinoa… it is so useful. So, when Zojirushi sent me one, I was over the moon ecstatic, and loaned it to my momma for a review! Here she is:
Howdy, people. This is Lizzy’s Mom, and I am pleased to share my review of the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 rice cooker.
Being from Louisiana and growing up on a farm as a rice farmer’s daughter, rice was very much a staple in our household. My Mom always made perfect rice, but me, not so much. So when Lizzy said I could borrow her Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy® Rice Cooker & Warmer, I was all over it.
It is a nice looking sturdy appliance that is well made, compact, and easy to clean. I am reviewing the 5.5 cup size on the right. It’s dimensions are 14 x 8 x 9 inches. The 5.5 cup size is great for a small family, but if you entertain a lot, I’d get the larger 10 cup size. Important note about cup size: The cups included with the unit are not the US standard 8oz cup, but are approximately 6 oz. Try not to lose them, but if you do, remember to use a 6 oz cup size instead of 8 oz. The white cup is for all rice except for prewashed rice (which I have never heard of). What is prewashed rice? Zojirushi says, “A new milling technology was developed in Japan, which eliminates the bran, excess surface starch and residues from the rice without sacrificing the quality of the rice. It is energy-saving and friendly to the environment since rinsing is not required.” If you are using this type rice, you use the GREEN measuring cup instead of the white one.
(I received this product for review purposes only. All opinions are completely my own).
In the box – the cooker, the interior bowl (not shown in the below photograph) a measuring cup for regular raw rice, a green measuring cup for prewashed rice, a plastic spoon, and instruction books. It has a handle on top and he power cord is retractable. The unit packs away quite nicely.
What the heck is Neuro Fuzzy® logic technology?
As per Zojirushi, “The Neuro Fuzzy® Rice Cooker & Warmer features advanced Neuro Fuzzy® logic technology, which allows the rice cooker to ‘think’ for itself and make fine adjustments to temperature and heating time to cook perfect rice every time.” I can relate to this because my logic is often fuzzy.
I set out to cook some short grain brown rice.
I filled the white cup full of rice and leveled it off. After a good washing, I put it in the bowl inside the cooker.
Next you add water to the pan up to the line indicated for the type of rice that you are cooking and give it a stir. The pan has line marks for white rice, porridge, sushi, mixed, brown etc. The marks on each side of the bowl are different for different types. Close the lid.
Next, refer to the control panel and choose the type of rice that you are cooking. Press “Cook” and you’ll hear a short tune play. Let the cooker do its job (do not open the lid while it is cooking). When the rice is done, you’ll hear another short tune, and the cooker will switch to a “keep warm” mode. Right after it is done, I like to stir it a bit and fluff it up.
The rice came out perfect, not underdone or overdone, and it had just the right amount of chewiness that I like.
Would I recommend this rice cooker? YES!!!!!!! I’d also suggest experimenting with one cup portions of different types of rice to determine exactly how much water you add to adjust it to your taste. The lines in the interior pan are a very good guideline to start with though.
There are many many recipes out there for the Zojirushi rice cooker, and you are limited only by your imagination, so have fun with it!

Nice review. Rice cookers are great. Been using them for last 30 years since we moved to Hawaii. Many local families don’t think a meal is complete without rice. Big japanese influence. Definitely make cooking rice a no brainer.

Thanks Steve!!! Oh yes aren’t they the best? I felt like it was cheating at first but now, the rice comes out too perfect so I really enjoy it. Hope to see yall again very soon!!!!!!!

I’ve never used a rice cooker, but this looks nice! I’ve got a friend who swears her rice never turns out right since moving here to Idaho, so I’ll have to tell her about this!

This sounds like a great gadget. I just happen to love buying gadgets and I’m not sure why I don’t have a rice cooker. Something worth looking into. Thanks to you and your mom for sharing the info.

I received this brand rice cooker, but a different model for Christmas. I’m having a hard time figuring out water to rice ratio. The book that comes with it, doesn’t help much. I usually have to double my rice or oatmeal to feed my whole family. If you have any suggestions, or places I can visit to help please let me know!
Thank you!

Hi Marla! I have had the same issue but after a lot of experimenting I have settled on a 1:1.25 ratio of rice to water when it comes to basmati or jasmine. I also use the quick cook setting when I do this and it comes out PERFECT. For brown rice, I don’t cook it much so I’m not 100% but I would try 1:1.75.
