Cucumber Salad Recipe + Kyocera Chef’s Knife Review

by Lizzy W   |   March 24, 2015   |   12 Comments

Stocking up on long-lasting kitchen equipment can really add up.  I know because sometimes I am dumb and will spend endless dollars on pots and pans because I have always thought that more expensive must mean better quality – NO!!!  I was so wrong, but better late than never for a big ole slap of reality.  I am so excited to have partnered up with Kyocera for some product reviews, including this new Kyocera 6″ Ceramic Chef’s Knife.  Their products […]

A Louisiana Daughter’s Boudin Guide

by Lizzy W   |   March 20, 2015   |   15 Comments

Ever since I can remember I have been eating boudin.  I was 4 years old, sitting in my baby pool in Hathaway, LA with boudin in one hand and my grandma’s oyster crackers in the other.  I was spoiled beyond words when it came to food growing up, my mother used to make fresh batches of gumbo, puree, & then freeze it in ice-cube trays and serve to my brother and I…. so yea, I have a deep inclination towards […]

Nesco Dehydrator Giveaway!!

by Lizzy W   |   March 17, 2015   |   8 Comments

In honor of one of my favorite weekend activities, dehydrating jerky and other goodness, I am giving away the amazing Nesco Dehydrator!  I am obsessed with my dehydrator because there are endless things you can do with it.  I love to take peppers or herbs that are about to go bad and dehydrate them to lengthen the shelf time (when I’m feeling productive).  My recipes for dehydrated peppers are here, and my amazing jerky is here.  ***** For 5 extra […]

How to Sous Vide Eggs

by Lizzy W   |   March 13, 2015   |   4 Comments

Cooking eggs are one of those basic things that every chef should know – they are just a fundamental staple in cooking.  I thought I made great eggs… until the sous vide came along and blew my mind.  When I discovered Anova’s precision cooker and learned all the things I could do with a sous vide it didn’t even cross my mind that you could go as far as cooking eggs that way!  That is… until we had a sous […]

Beet and Goat Cheese Salad

by Lizzy W   |   March 11, 2015   |   10 Comments

I get on these food kicks where I make something I like and try to brainstorm a million different recipes with that certain ingredient.  Today’s fix – BEETS!  As soon as I saw them at the farmers market I bought them and started dreaming of all the different things I could do with them.  Oh I love beets  so much…. roasted, pickled, love em!  So I made this as the “salad” before dinner last night, and oh boy it was […]

Chris Kinjo’s Omakase

by Lizzy W   |   March 10, 2015   |   3 Comments

Chris Kinjo’s Omakase dinner is probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had.  Nothing he does is typical of what you would expect from just a sushi restaurant.  Soy sauce does not happen there, the wasabi is freshly grated on sharkskin, and he tells you how to eat each piece to be savored – it’s a customized experience just for you and its beautiful.  Kinjo is very old school in the regard that he doesn’t over complicate any of […]

Black Bean Hatch Chili

by Lizzy W   |   March 10, 2015   |   19 Comments

Hatch season is my favorite time of year.  It only comes around for about 2 months though, so I always make sure to keep roasted peppers in my freezer for the rest of the year.  The Hatch Chile has a flavor totally unique of any other peppers I have tried – peppery, but also a bright citrusy acidity… and after its roasted you can taste the smokiness – it’s just incredible and it adds so much flavor to anything you make. […]
